Touchpoint Pediatrics, located in Chatham at 17 Watchung Avenue, phone (973) 665-0900, is the office of Jennifer Shaw, MD, and Associates and is committed to providing individualized, comprehensive pediatric and adolescent medical care. They have a courteous, medically trained, professional staff; ample parking; and are handicapped accessible. They are affiliated with St. Barnabas Medical Center, Overlook and Morristown Memorial Medical Centers.
Jennifer Shaw, M.D., FA.A.P., has been practicing general pediatric and adolescent medicine and developmental and behavioral pediatrics in this area since 1995. Prior to that, she was the medical director of the Hunterdon County Child Evaluation Center in Flemington, New Jersey. Dr. Shaw completed her pediatric residency and developmental and behavioral fellowship at Schneider Children’s Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, where she received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Performance. She received her MD from the University of Connecticut. A board-certified general pediatrician, she is also one of the first doctors board-certified in developmental and behavioral pediatrics in the United States.
Dr. Shaw utilizes her training to help families coping with typical behaviors such as temper tantrums, separation anxiety, sibling rivalry, feeding struggles, and motivational problems. She has extensive experience diagnosing and coordinating the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, and learning problems. Both Touchpoint Pediatrics and all of the doctors have been nationally recognized by the NCQA as the highest-level patient-centered medical home. Emily Chen, M.D. F.A.A.P., practiced for five years in New Jersey prior to joining Touchpoint Pediatrics in 2022. Dr. Chen received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. She then worked at Greengard Lab at Rockefeller University studying molecular and cellular signaling of antidepressant pathways before attending medical school at St. George’s University. Dr. Chen completed her pediatric residency at Albany Medical Center where she received the prestigious Otto Faust award for excellence in teaching and patient care. She’s been recognized by the NCQA as the highest-level Patient-Center Medical Home, as well as New Jersey Family’s Favorite Kids’ Doc.
Sharon Spiteri, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.P., joined Touchpoint pediatrics in 2022. She has been practicing pediatrics for over twenty years. She is a board-certified pediatrician who has invaluable first-hand experience ranging from prematurity and early development to nutrition and overall child health. After graduating from Barnard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, Dr. Spiteri continued her studies at Columbia University where she obtained her Masters of Public Health degree. She went on to earn her Medical Degree from St. George’s University and subsequently completed her residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine/St Joseph’s Children’s hospital of New Jersey. She has been recognized as New Jersey Family’s Favorite Kids Docs and by the NCQA as the highest-level Patient-Center Medical Home.
Valerie Tom, M.D., F.A.A.P., was practicing pediatrics in Alexandria, Virginia for 4 years prior to returning to New Jersey in 2005, when she joined Touchpoint Pediatrics. She was an Assistant Clinical Professor at George Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency training at Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Avirath Purohit, D.O., M.P.H., A.O.B.P., practiced in Alabama for two years before joining Touchpoint Pediatrics in 2025. Born and raised in Alabama, he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. He then completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a dual concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Alabama and completed his pediatric residency at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics. His father and his brother are pediatricians as well. Dr. Purohit and his wife enjoy playing tennis, road biking, and traveling.
